Greatest Love of All/Whitney Houston 解説
Greatest Love of Allは、「自分の決めた人生を生きる決意」と「人々に自分の可能性に気づいてほしいという思い」が込められた曲で、作詞家であるリンダ・クリードが乳がんの闘病中に書いた曲です。1977年にジョージ・ベンソンが映画『モハメド・アリ THE GREATEST』のテーマ曲として書き下ろしたのが本家で、実はホイットニーのものはカバーであることは、あまり知られていません。
ホイットニーがこの曲をカバーすることになったのは、作曲者であるマイケル・マッサーとの出会いがきっかけです。ホイットニーがデビューする前、マイケルが彼女の歌を聞きに行く機会がありました。その時にホイットニーがGreatest Love of Allをカバーしており、それに射抜かれたマイケルがホイットニーのデビュー時に「Greatest Love of Allをアルバムに入れないか」と持ち掛けたんだとか。
