「Hot Girl Bummer」は、当時大流行していた「#HotGirlSummer」というハッシュタグ文化から着想を得て制作されました。タイトルが発表された際は、ミーガン・ジー・スタリオンの「Hot Girl Summer」を真似したのではないかという声もありましたが、ブラックベア本人はパロディではなくSNSカルチャーへの言及だと説明しています。
