I Fought the Law/The Clash 解説

1978年の中旬ごろのこと。クラッシュはセカンドアルバムの「Give ‘Em Enough Rope(邦題：動乱(獣を野に放て))」を製作している最中でした。

彼らがレコーディングのためサンフランシスコのスタジオに向かった際、そこのスタジオのオーナーが古いジュークボックスのコレクションを持っていたそうです。

そこでクラッシュはBobby Fullerの「I Fought the Law」のカバーを聴いたのでした。それだきっかけでカバーすることになったのです。

でもこのBobby Fullerのものも「カバー曲」。本当はソニー・カーティスという人が作曲したものなんです。一番最初のリリースは1960年ですから、クラッシュが初めて聴いた1978年からしても相当なクラシックソングですね。
