Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)/Eurythmics 解説

1980年代に絶大な人気を誇ったイギリスのデュオ、ユーリズミックス。結成当初からメンバーのアニーとデイヴは恋愛関係にありましたが、この曲のリリース前後は破局直後で、二人の仲は険悪な状態でした。

「Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)」の作曲も、ちょうど二人が大喧嘩をした後。アニーによれば、前身バンド・ツーリストの解散後の最悪な頃を表現した歌詞だそう。

この曲がここまで人気が出たのは曲の良さも勿論ありますが、MVがMTVでヘビロテされたことも影響しています。アニーの男性的な服装や髪型が大きな話題となり、彼らの人気を底上げしました。

ちなみにこの曲、映画『Xメン/アポカリプス』のシルバーサーファーが劇中で聴いていたことで再注目した人も多いとか(笑)
