Good Life/Kanye West 解説

「Good Life」は制作中のスタジオがまるでパーティーのような雰囲気だったそうです。カニエは以前からマイケル・ジャクソンの「P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)」を使って曲を作りたいと考えていて、その場でサンプルを鳴らしながらメロディやベースラインを組み立てていったとのこと。

実はフックを誰が歌うかは最後まで悩んでいたそうで、Ne-Yoなど複数の候補を試した末にT-ペインが起用されました。さらにT-ペインはコーラスを5パターンも録音したものの、カニエはどれか1つを選ばず、すべて組み合わせるアイデアを採用。T-ペイン自身も「天才だと思った」と振り返っています。

ちなみにこの曲でライブ中にオートチューンを使って歌った経験が、翌年の名盤『808s & Heartbreak』につながったとも言われています。
