Dance Monkey/Tones and I 解説

Dance Monkeyは、Tones and I自身がストリートパフォーマーとして活動していた時の体験談を歌った曲です。彼女は別にダンスパフォーマンスをしないのにも関わらずDanceとなっているのは、自分自身を歌った曲にしたくなかったからだそう。

ストリートパフォーマンスは観客の気を引くのが大変なため、活動を通して彼女もどんどん上手くなっていきましたが、Tones and Iはそんな自分を「まるで芸を仕込まれた猿」のように感じていました。その自虐的な思いがこの「Dance Monkey」には込められています。ちなみに歌詞の一部には、お客さんから実際に言われた言葉が使われています。
