I Believe I Can Fly/R. Kelly 解説

「I Believe I Can Fly」は映画『Space Jam』のサウンドトラックとして製作されました。
この『Space Jam』、マイケル・ジョーダン出演のカートゥーン映画という奇抜(笑)なもので
これはこれで一見の価値ありです。

この映画の製作にあたり、
マイケル・ジョーダン本人からR・ケリーに
「今度の映画の曲を作ってみないか」
と直接オファーがありました。

国民的スターからの願ってもないオファーに
R・ケリーは二つ返事で「やるよ！」と快諾。

アニも多分マイケル・ジョーダンに頼まれたらOK出しちゃいますね(笑)

そのあと二人で製作途中の映画本編を見に行き
「I Believe I Can Fly」を作曲したのでした。

結果、映画の興行収入はそこまでだったのですが
曲の人気に火が付き、米ビルボード2位にまでのぼりつめ・・・
最終的にグラミー賞3部門を受賞する大ヒットになりました。

ちなみに余談ですが、
歌詞は「空を飛べるはず」と歌っている割に
R・ケリー自身は飛行機が怖くて乗れないそうです(笑)
遠方へも全て船で移動しているとのこと。

なんだか矛盾した面白い曲ですよね。
