Don’t Go Awayは、自分と決別しようとする親しい人を引き止めようともがく歌詞になっています。

まるでギャラガー兄弟自身の関係を歌ったような歌詞で、離れていくノエルとそれを追いかけるリアムという構図と絶妙にシンクロしています。もっとも、作曲当時はそんな意図もなかったでしょうけど。

この曲が作られた背景には2つの出来事がからんでいます。

1つは、オアシスのUSツアー中に兄弟の母親が、病院の検査でガンの疑いがあると入院したこと。もう1つは、当時のリズムギターだったボーンヘッドの母親(ダリア)がガンで死にかけており、「母に捧げる曲を書いてほしい」という要望に応えて作られたこと。

その証拠に、この曲が収録された3rdアルバム「Be Here Now」には、「This record is dedicated to the eternal memory of Delia Arthurs.(このレコードはダリア・アーサーズの永遠の記憶に捧げる)」と書かれています。
