Girls Just Want To Have Funは束縛されがちな10代の女の子達の思いを歌った曲です。シンディは多くの曲の作詞に携わってきましたが、この曲は彼女が書いた歌詞ではありません。また、元は男性目線で書かれていた歌詞だったことも、意外に知られていません。シンディが歌うということになり、急遽女性目線の曲として書き直されましたが、歌詞の一部にはその名残があります。

MVではレスラーのルー・アルバーノが父親役、シンディの本物の母親が母親役として出演しています。出演者がほぼボランティアで構成できたことと、シンディ自身のコネで当時最先端の編集機材が無料で借りれたことで、ビデオの撮影費用は3万5千ドルと当時としては破格の値段で作ることができました。
