Octopus’s Garden/The Beatles 解説

「Octopus’s Garden」はリバプールのロックバンド、ビートルズが1969年に発表した楽曲です。「Don’t Pass Me By」に続く、リンゴらしいリンゴの曲です。ジョージは宇宙的な広がりのある曲と絶賛しました。

『ホワイト・アルバム』セッション中、一時的にバンドを脱退したリンゴはサルディニア (イタリア) の洋上で休暇をとってました。そこの昼食に出されたタコ料理を断ると、船長はタコの生態について説明したんです。このエピソードはそのまま歌詞になりました。

バンドに嫌気がさして、海に潜って逃げたい気持ちが歌詞のポイントでもあります。コップの水をブクブクするサウンドもいい感じですね。

末っ子リンゴのためにポールとジョージは協力しましたが、残念ながらジョンはバンドに興味を失ってほぼ参加してません。『Abbey Road』の１曲目が「Come Together」じゃなかったら、『Abbey Road』は傑作扱いされてないかもね。
