Stay Young/Oasis 解説

OasisのシングルB面曲のうち、ファンの投票とノエル・ギャラガーで収録曲が決められた裏ベスト・アルバム「The Masterplan(ザ・マスタープラン)」。ファンの間では1stや2ndアルバムと同じかそれ以上に人気があるアルバムです。

このThe Masterplanが2023年でリリース25周年となり、リマスター音源を収録した限定コレクターズ・エディションが発売されました。

その中に収録されているのが本曲、Stay Young。

初期のオアシスらしいロックンロールなサウンドに、ギャラガー兄弟(というかリアムかも)のキャラクターがモロに出た歌詞が個人的に大好きな一曲です。

Stay Youngはそのまま「若いままでいろ」という意味ですが、特にオアシス解散後のリアムを見ていると、このStay Youngという言葉を今だに心に据えて音楽に向かっている感じがしますよね。

最初はギャラガー兄弟が労働者階級出身の出自からきた反骨精神でこんな歌詞を書いたのかなーなんて思っていましたが、今は違います。きっと彼らがどんな場所でどんな身分で生まれたとしても、「若いままでいる」という言葉のままに生きただろうという気がします。

彼らの今の生きざまを見ながら、このStay Youngを聴くと、「よっしゃやってやるぜ！」と毎回奮い立ちますね。この曲が好きな人がもっと増えたら良いなと思います。
