Pop/*NSYNC 歌詞和訳と意味

「Pop」はアメリカのボーイズグループ、イン・シンク（*NSYNC）が2001年にリリースした楽曲です。アルバム『Celebrity』からのリードシングルとして発売されました。

タイトル通り”ポップミュージック”がテーマですが、王道ポップというよりはかなり攻めたサウンドですね。途中で入るジャスティン・ティンバーレイクのビートボックスも印象的で、一度聴くとかなり耳に残ります。当時のボーイズグループのイメージを良い意味で裏切った一曲です。

Pop/*NSYNC 解説

『Celebrity』の制作では、それまで「作られたボーイズグループ」と見られがちだったイメージを変えるため、メンバー自身が楽曲制作にも積極的に参加しました。「Pop」もその象徴的な楽曲で、ジャスティン・ティンバーレイクは「ポップと見なされない要素を全部この曲に詰め込んだ」と語っています。

制作にはエレクトロニック・ミュージック界で活躍していたBTが参加しています。最初はイン・シンクとの仕事に乗り気ではなかったそうですが、最終的には1200回以上もの細かな編集を重ねて、独特なスタッターエフェクトを作り上げました。曲終盤のビートボックスも、レコーディング中にジャスティンが口ずさんでいたものをBTが気に入り、そのまま採用されたそうです。レーベルは「ラジオ向きじゃない」とリードシングルに反対していたらしいので、この攻めたサウンドで発売に踏み切ったのは結構すごい判断ですね。

ちなみにMVには、マイケル・ジャクソンが本人役でカメオ出演しています。当時の音楽シーンを代表するスター同士の共演ということもあって、大きな話題になりました。曲名だけ見るとシンプルなんですが、制作背景を知るとかなり面白い一曲です。
