「Space Cowboy」はイギリスのバンド、ジャミロクワイが1994年にリリースした楽曲です。セカンドアルバム『The Return of the Space Cowboy』のリードシングルとして発表されました。

Space Cowboy/Jamiroquai 解説

「Space Cowboy」は、ジャミロクワイのフロントマンであるジェイ・ケイがドラッグ問題や精神的なプレッシャーを抱えていた時期に制作された楽曲です。アルバム『The Return of the Space Cowboy』自体も、社会問題や若者文化などをテーマにした作品になっていました。

実はこの曲、複数のバージョンが存在しています。特に有名なのが“Stoned Again Mix”で、こちらはベーシストのスチュアート・ゼンダーによるスラップベースがかなり印象的。ライブでは10分以上に拡張されることもあるらしく、ジャミロクワイの演奏力ほんと恐ろしいです。

ちなみにMVでは、青い部屋の中でジェイ・ケイが踊り続けるかなり不思議な映像になっています。カメラワークも当時としてはかなり凝っていて、複数のジェイ・ケイが同時に現れたり消えたりする演出がおしゃれですね。アメリカ版では大麻を連想させる描写が差し替えられていたらしく、当時かなり物議を醸したのもジャミロクワイっぽいです。
