「Only The Young」はもともと『Lover』の制作期間中に書かれた楽曲でしたが、アルバムには収録されず、『Miss Americana』のために公開されました。テイラーが2018年のアメリカ中間選挙の結果に強い衝撃を受けたことが制作のきっかけだったそうです。

本曲はテイラーとニュージーランド出身のプロデューサー、ジョエル・リトルが共同制作しています。バックコーラスにはジョエル・リトルの娘たちも参加していて、子どもたちの歌声が楽曲のテーマと綺麗に重なっています。
