「Instant Karma!」は、ジョン・レノンがある朝「Instant Karma!」というフレーズを思いつき、その日のうちに書き上げたことで有名です。さらに驚くことに、その日のうちにレコーディングまで行われ、わずか10日ほどでレコードが発売されました。当時としては異例のスピードでリリースされた作品だったそうです。

レコーディングにはジョージ・ハリスンも参加していて、ジョン、ジョージ、クラウス・フォアマン、アラン・ホワイトら豪華なメンバーで録音されました。ジョンは「朝に書いて、昼に録音して、夜にはミックスした」と振り返っていて、その勢いのまま完成した1曲だったようです。
