Underneath the Tree/Kelly Clarkson 解説

「Underneath the Tree」は、ケリー・クラークソンがプロデューサーのグレッグ・カースティンと共作した楽曲です。ケリー自身、「現代版の定番クリスマスソング」を作りたいと考えていたそうで、フィル・スペクター風のクラシックなクリスマスサウンドをかなり意識して制作されたとのこと。

レコーディング時、ケリーは真夏にもかかわらずスタジオにクリスマスツリーを持ち込んで歌っていたそうです。クリスマス気分を出すためらしいんですが、本気度すごい…。ちなみにコーラスはほぼ一発録りだったと言われていて、ケリーの歌唱力の高さがよく分かります。

リリース後は毎年ホリデーシーズンになるたびにチャートへ再浮上していて、今では現代クリスマスソングの定番クラスになっています。マライア・キャリーの「All I Want for Christmas Is You」と並んで、“新しめなのに毎年流れるクリスマス曲”の代表格になりましたね。個人的にもかなり好きなクリスマスソングです。
