Another Day in Paradise/Phil Collins 解説

「Another Day in Paradise」は、フィル・コリンズが実際にホームレスの人々を見かけた経験から書かれた曲です。制作時の仮タイトルも、そのまま「Homeless」だったそう。ワシントンD.C.で、議事堂の近くにホームレスの人々が寝泊まりしている光景を見て、“豊かな国とのギャップ”に衝撃を受けたことがきっかけだったようです。

MVは全編モノクロで撮影されていて、ホームレスや貧困層の映像がかなり多く使われています。当時は「大富豪のミュージシャンがホームレス問題を歌うのは偽善的では？」という批判もあったみたいですが、一方で今でもフィル・コリンズの代表曲として語られることが多いんですよね。個人的にも、80年代の社会派ポップとしてかなり印象に残る一曲です。
