「Break My Heart」は『Future Nostalgia』からの3枚目のシングルとしてリリースされました。デュア・リパ自身はこの曲について、「恋愛において弱さを見せることを祝福する曲」と語っています。それまで弱みだと思っていた感情を、あえて前向きに捉えたかったそうです。

本曲で特に有名なのが、オーストラリアのロックバンドINXSの「Need You Tonight」を引用していること。あの印象的なギターリフに気付いた人も多いのではないでしょうか。そのためINXSのアンドリュー・ファリスと故マイケル・ハッチェンスもソングライターとしてクレジットされています。『Future Nostalgia』というアルバムタイトル通り、過去の名曲を現代のポップスとして再構築する発想が見事ですね。
