Guys/The 1975 解説

「Guys」はアルバム制作の終盤に書かれた楽曲で、フロントマンのマシュー・ヒーリーが長年一緒に活動してきたメンバーたちへの思いを込めて制作しました。The 1975は13歳の頃から同じメンバーで活動を続けており、ヒーリー自身も「友人たちへのラブソングを書きたかった」と語っています。

ちなみに本曲は、2013年の楽曲「Girls」と対になる存在として作られました。「Girls」が女性への憧れや恋愛感情を描いていたのに対し、「Guys」はバンドメンバーとの友情をテーマにしています。ロックバンドがここまでストレートに男同士の友情を歌うのは意外と珍しい気がします。

MVには結成初期からのホームビデオやツアー映像、レコーディング風景などが大量に使用されています。まさにバンドの歴史を振り返るような内容ですね。長年のファンならかなり刺さる映像だと思いますし、こういうMVを見るとThe 1975がここまで大きなバンドになった理由もなんとなく分かる気がします。
