「Shape of You」はイギリスのシンガーソングライター、エド・シーランが2017年にリリースした楽曲です。アルバム『÷（Divide）』からのリードシングルとして発表されました。

エド・シーランの代表曲と言っても過言ではないですね。ダンスホールやトロピカルハウスの要素を取り入れた軽快なサウンドが心地よく、サビの中毒性も抜群です。リリース後は世界34カ国以上で1位を獲得し、2017年を代表するヒット曲になりました。

Shape of You/Ed Sheeran 解説

実は「Shape of You」は最初からエド・シーラン自身が歌う予定だった曲ではありませんでした。当初はガールズグループのリトル・ミックス向けに制作され、その後はリアーナへの提供も検討されていたそうです。しかし制作途中で「これは自分で歌うべきだ」と判断し、最終的に自身のアルバムへ収録されることになりました。

制作はスティーヴ・マック、ジョニー・マクデイドと共同で行われました。また、TLCの名曲「No Scrubs」とメロディの一部が似ていると話題になり、後にオリジナルの作者であるカンディ・バーラス、テイメカ・コトル、ケヴィン・ブリッグスが共作者としてクレジットされています。

ちなみにMVは映画『ロッキー』シリーズへのオマージュとして制作されています。ボクシングのトレーニングに励むエド・シーランの姿が描かれていて、最後には元力士の山本山龍太とのまさかの対決シーンも登場します。初めて見た人は結構びっくりするはず。MVはYouTubeで60億回以上再生されていて、音楽史に残るレベルの人気作になっています。
